During my journey over the last couple of years, working within the wrestling community I have had the chance to meet some amazing people. And this interview has been one of THOSE people. Ladies and gents, let me introduce you to Rainydaypod! I hope you will enjoy this conversation, as much as I did!
Chels: Thank you so much for coming on the blog, it was been so refreshing to meet you recently. You have your YouTube Channel: Rainey Day Pod and I have had the opportunity to check it out. So far, I have really enjoyed it! What made you want to start a channel and make content?
RDP: It was a pleasure meeting you as well and thank you for this opportunity, Chels. I appreciate you enjoying the shows. I started my channel because of my passion for sports. I want to make content that is real and from the heart without being politically correct all the damn time. My love for South Florida sports and wrestling is what got me started and my passion for it is what keeps me going.
Chels: With wrestling, when did you start watching? And starting out, who were your favorite wrestlers, and why?
RDP: I started watching, like most of us, as a kid in 1997. The Attitude Era is unforgettable and the main reason I fell in love with it. My favorites were Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker, and Kane. They were larger than life then and still are to this day. Goosebumps anytime I hear their entrance music.
Chels: When we spoke last, we both talked about not watching wrestling for a while. For you, was there any specific time frame or situation in wrestling where it made you stop watching?
RDP: For about 4 years at the start of the PG Era, I was in and out of it. Never fully stopped but never watched consistently. I think it was more of the “What the hell has this become?” After the Attitude Era. I was growing up and wanted the old unfiltered version of WWE I was used to. I get it though; the company had to adapt to the way the world was in that time.
Chels: Do you watch any other wrestling other than WWE? If not, why?
RDP: Yes, I watched WCW and ECW also. WCW had great characters and storylines. While ECW gave me that edgy, hardcore fix that I needed as a young boy. I’ll NEVER forget backyard wrestling as well.
Chels: From any era/time frame in WWE, who are your top 5?
RDP: From a polarizing standpoint, I would say Hulkster, Stone Cold, The Rock, Undertaker, and Roman Reigns. Whether you love them or hate them, you do it with passion. They are characters that are bigger than wrestling. From a wrestling standpoint, I’d have to say Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles. They are just soooooo GOOD in the ring.
Chels: What is your favorite PLE/PPV?
RDP: By far WrestleMania 17. It had everything for me. From TLC, to Vince vs Shane, Jericho vs William Regal, Undertaker vs Triple H, to the main event showdown that was peak for me, The Rock vs Stone Cold. Plus, the epic theme music “My Way” by Limp Bizkit.
Chels: This could be two answers.. but what are your dream matches? Dead or alive, any time frame..
RDP: I would love to see Prime Shawn Michael’s vs Seth Rollins. I think that would be a 5 Star match and just for shits and giggles, give me Dirty Dom vs Eddie Guerrero lol
Chels: I feel like this year’s WrestleMania is a little lack luster. What are your thoughts about going into it?
RDP: As a person who has a weekly recap show, it has been a slow build but the last couple of weeks have been turning it up a notch. It’s WrestleMania, it will deliver. I trust them enough to do that at least lol Seth Rollins, Trick Williams, LA Knight, and Gunther not having matches booked yet worries me though.
Chels: Over the years, there has been a good bit of back and forth when it comes to booking and storylines. Do you think Triple H has done a good job of taking over? Or do you wish things could go back to how they used to be with previous booking styles?
RDP: I think Triple H has done a good job and might have done an even better job if half the talent didn’t get injured. We’re talking about BIG stars getting injured right in the middle of storylines, so I understand he’s doing what he feels is “Best for Business”. With that said, there has been some extremely lazy booking and some things that leave you like WTF. Also, some wrestlers I think he didn’t strike while they were hot. Look we’re never going to get exactly what we want, that’s just another reason I love it though.
Chels: With being so close to WrestleMania, what are your matches you are hoping to see?
RDP: All the matches this year are intriguing because there are so many ways they can go with them. I’m excited to see the Women’s Champions Show out, Jade and Stephanie have never been under this amount of spotlight/pressure before in their respective careers. I’m excited for them.
Chels: Is there anything else you’d like everyone to know about you and your channel?
RDP: Check out @RaineyDayPod on YouTube and all social media platforms. South Florida Sports Unfiltered Fridays at 7PM EST and Too Raw for SmackDown Saturday/Sunday 1PM EST every week. We also have Pre and Post shows for every PLE. Thanks again Chels. Keep killing it!
